If you are in the network communication industry, I believe you should know some Ethernet cables, such as  Category 5E(CAT5E), Category 6 (CAT6)and Category 7(CAT7) and so on. But do you know what Category 8(Cat8 )network cable is? What is the difference between CAT8 and Category 5(CAT5), Category 6(CAT6) /  Category 6(CAT6A) and Category 7(CAT7) / Category 7(CAT7A)? The following will be followed by us (LITANG) to introduce you to the new generation of network Patch Cord Cable-- Cat8 Ethernet cables.

What is the Category 8(CAT8 ) network cable?

Category 8(CAT8 ) network cable is the latest generation of double shielded (SFTP) network Patch Cord Cable, it has two pairs of conductors which can support the bandwidth of 2000MHz, and the transmission rate is as high as 40Gb/s, but its maximum transmission distance is only 30m, so it is generally used for the connection of servers, switches, distribution frames and other equipment in short-distance data centers.

The standard of Category 8(CAT8 ) network cable.

The relevant standards for Category 8(Cat8) network cables were officially issued by the (TIA) TR-43 Committee of the American Communications Industry Association in 2016, details are as follows:

1.It conforms to the IEEE 802.3bq 25G / 40GBASE-T standard and specifies the minimum transmission rate of Category 8(CAT8) network cables, which can support 25 Gbps and 40 Gbps network cabling.

2.It conforms to the ANSI / TIA-568-C.2-1 standard, specifies the channels and permanent links of Category 8(CAT8) network cables, and includes resistance imbalance, TCL and ELTCTL restrictions.

3.It conforms to the ANSI / TIA-1152-A standard and specifies the measurement and accuracy requirements of the Category 8(CAT8) network cable spot tester.

4. It conforms to the ISO / IEC-11801 standard and specifies the channels and permanent links of I/II Category 8(CAT8) network cables.

Categories of Category 8(CAT8) network cables.

In the ISO / IEC-11801 standard, according to the channel level, Category 8(CAT8) network cables are divided into Class I and II, in which Class I Category 8(CAT8) network cable shielding types are U/FTP and RJ45 UTP, which are backward compatible with Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6a RJ45 connector interfaces; Class II Category 8(CAT8)network cable shielding types are F/FTP or SF/FTP FTP, which can be backward compatible with TERA or GG45 connector interfaces.

The difference between Category 8(CAT8) Network Cable and Category 5E (CAT5E)Network Cable, Category 6(CAT6) Network Cable,Category 6 (CAT6A)Network Cable and Category 7 (CAT7A)/ Category 7A(CAT7A) Network Cable.

At present, there are five common types of network cables in the market: Category 5E (CAT5E) network cables, Category 6(CAT6) network cables, Category 6 (CAT6A) network cables, Category 7 (CAT7A) network cables and Category 7 (CAT7A)network cables. What is the difference between Category 8(CAT8) network cables and these network cables? The following is the parameter table of the network cables:

As can be seen from the above table, Category 8(CAT8)  network cables, like Category 7 (CAT7A)/ Category 7A(CAT7A) network cables, are shielded twisted pair and can be used in data centers, high-speed and bandwidth-intensive places. Although the transmission distance of Category 8(CAT8) network cables is not as far as that of Category 7 (CAT7A)/ Category 7A(CAT7A) network cables, its speed and frequency are much higher than those of Category 7 (CAT7A)/ Category 7A(CAT7A) network cables. There is a big difference between Category 8(CAT8) network cable and Category 5E (CAT5E) network cable and Category 6(CAT6) / Category 6A(CAT6A) network cable, which is mainly reflected in speed, frequency, transmission distance and application and so on.
